111 west 57th street

A new classic: in the world’s slenderest tower, 45 full-floor apartments that take advantage of a spectacular centered-on-Central-Park location. Using Manhattan’s great early skyscrapers (The Woolworth Building, Chrysler Building, etc) as an inspiration, the terra-cotta and bronze tower sets back to create a dynamic figure on the skyline, while the interiors reference this materiality with the use best-in-class materials, including custom hand-forged hardware by the iconic West-Village based P.E. Guerin.

The facade similarly looks both forward and back, a cascade of sculptural terracotta and bronze, reviving the lost materiality of its predecessors and made possible again by digital modeling and fabrication. Supertall and superthin, the towert gives back to the city at multiple scales, unlocked by its primary function as a luxury residence: at the ground level, revitalizing Warren and Wetmore’s landmarked Steinway Hall Building (1925), while imprinting a delicate silhouette that’s very much of the New York skyline.
